MARITIME RULES & REGULATIONS:
Household goods and personal effects, including vehicles,
moving internationally should be protected from loss or
damage. Anyone who places cargo onboard a
vessel is “at risk” in the event of a disaster such
as a fire or sinking of the vessel. A vessel operator
can make a declaration of “general average” in which
case all persons having cargo aboard the vessel must
share in the loss involved.
Be aware that movers and forwarders have a basic
liability, the minimum provided under the law, which is
not to be confused with the protection provided under
an Extended Protection Program. The minimum
liability rarely provides the protection you need when
shipping your goods overseas. Also, your personal insurance
policies (homeowners, renters, or automobile policies)
likely provide very limited, if any, coverage for your
goods while they are in transit or located in a foreign
country. More importantly personal policies do not offer
coverage's against marine perils.
You can be reassured that MERIDIAN WORLDWIDE takes every
precaution to protect your goods from the rigors of an
international move. Despite this, experience has taught us
that sometimes the unexpected can happen and occasional
loss or damage to your goods may occur through rough
handling or a multitude of other causes. Professional
packaging can help in minimizing most of these risks, but
the need to properly declare the value of your goods is
still present.
EXTENDED HOUSEHOLD GOODS PROTECTION PROGRAM:
Meridian Worldwide is pleased to offer to its clients an
EXTENDED PROTECTION PROGRAM designed to protect your
goods from loss or damage during the course of their
transit. Protection is offered on a Door-To-Door basis. In
addition to the standard protection of the Program, there
are optional protection enhancements that provide additional
protection, beyond that of the Program, for loss or damage
due to mold and mildew, loss in value of a pair or set, and
mechanical breakdown of an electronic item. You have the
option of adding those enhancements to the Program’s
standard protection for a small additional cost. Please
refer to the Extended Protection Program Terms and
Conditions that are included as part of the application for
this Program for complete information.
What
if I want to ship an automobile, motorcycle, or boat?
These items can also be protected but are valued in a
slightly different fashion than household goods. Replacement
Cost does not apply in this case. You should declare what it
would cost to purchase a similar item at destination taking
into consideration the age and condition of your automobile,
motorcycle, or boat. You should note that in many cases the
value of imported autos, motorcycles, or boats may be
considerably greater than the value at origin.
MERIDIAN WORLDWIDE offers you the very best coverage
available in the International Moving industry. Our rates
are very competitive and due to our low claims per move
ratio, we provide this excellent coverage with NO DEDUCTIBLE
for our clients!
